This senior management position is for The American Joint Jewish Distribution Committee, Inc. (JDC) a large international Jewish Rescue and Relief organization working in over 70 countries across the globe. The organization is seeking an out-of-the-box creative individual to help it evolve from limited recognition in the Jewish world to a well-known household name like the Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, etc. The most pressing concern of the "marcom" effort is to identify and target wider audiences in order to widen the financial support base of JDC while retaining the traditional sources of funding from the organized American Jewish community.
The marcom department will serve as a partner of the resource development (RD) department within what will now be known as the global international relations (IR) team. In this respect, the marcom director will serve on the global IR executive team with his/her RD counterparts.
The JDC has a budget of over $300 million annually. It is an American non-political NGO, incorporated in the USA and governed primarily by an American Board of Directors - yet by nature of its programs around the world, its staff and methods or operation is international.
This position is responsible for creating the marketing and communications strategies around the mission and brand of JDC; positioning JDC; and growing JDC's name recognition and awareness-building goals. As an executive team member, this position will work closely with many departments throughout the global organization and will be responsible for building a team environment to foster excellent working relationships internally and externally.
JDC IS SEEKING:
1.A proven expert in integrated marketing and communications strategies in the non-profit section.
2.A proven expert at using web-based technologies to improve and upgrade the organizations website on an ongoing basis.
3.A proven understanding and utilization of emerging methodologies for social marketing, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc.
4.A proven brand-builder.
5.Someone educated in Jewish life and a follower of current affaires in Jewish world politics.
6.A familiarity with the nonprofit world, its publications and current trends.
7.An understanding of the dynamics of professional/lay relationships in a Board-governed organization and an ability to work with lay leaders to accomplish marketing goals.
8.An ability to create big, bold ideas that act as engines to move and motivate the integrated marketing arena.
9.Experience with leading and motivating staff, the Board and the community.
10.Working within budgets and stretching the dollars through target marketing.
11.A person with a passion for the JDC's mission.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Establish JDC's integrated marketing and communications strategies to build and maximize brand awareness.
2.Overall department supervision. Manage departmental manager who oversees staff handling media relations, web communications, editorial services, advertising, direct mail, and social media. Oversee all in-house and out sourced projects and vendor/agency relations.
3.Work as a partner of and support the RD team on the relevant fundraising goals and needs of JDC. Assist RD with research, marketing, communications strategies and implementation. Work with additional JDC departments in order to fulfill their respective marcom-related needs.
4.Work closely with the JDC Board and the Marketing & Communications Committee in support of JDC's marketing, communications, development and fundraising efforts. Work to build strong alliances between lay leaders and staff recognizing the roles and strengths of each.
5.Coordinate JDC's marketing with outside relevant agencies when necessary and liaise with their marketing directors (UJC, JAFI, Federations, etc.)
6.Develop and implement new web ad social media technologies/techniques.
7.Supervise press relations in conjunction with JDC's Senior Management and act as spokesperson, when necessary.
8.Responsible for keeping abreast and implementing new marketing research techniques to support JDC's donor and fundraising programs.
9.Travel to visit JDC's programs around the world when necessary. Coordinates world-wide marketing with JDC's regional directors/offices.
EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS
A.Experience in a senior level marketing/communications management position, preferably nonprofit NGO.
B.Proven track record of success developing brand-awareness building campaigns with the goal of increasing fundraising.
C.A successful record of using social media and web-based tools.
D.Multicultural work and living experience outside of the US is a plus.
Education:
Degree in Communications, Marketing, International Relations, Journalism or Business Administration or advanced degree required.
