Date posted: 11/6/2009

Executive Director,
Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service

The GW Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service was recently formed to leverage the University's existing programs, both curricular and co-curricular, and to create new interdepartmental opportunities to carry out our mission of service under a new Provost structure responsible for academic, student, and medical affairs. The University is seeking a creative and energetic Executive Director who combines activism, experience, and academic values to lead this vital effort.

The Executive Director will provide senior leadership to the newly-formed Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service, which is charged with developing, extending, coordinating, and showcasing GW's strengths in public service locally, nationally and globally as well as across existing centers and institutes.

The Executive Director, in conjunction with University Development staff, will spearhead grant-writing and fund raising to expand public service events and operations.

The ideal candidate will combine demonstrated leadership and a strong vision for public service with a successful track-record of commitment in carrying out projects on a campus-wide scale. Applicants should have five or more years at the level of director or eight or more years of progressively responsible work in public service (nonprofit, government) and/or a relevant academic field. Master's or other comparable degree (JD or MBA) is required. Doctorate is desired for the position.

Founded in 1821, The George Washington University is located just blocks away from the White House.

All applications and nominations will be kept strictly confidential. Only complete applications will be considered. Review of application will commence December 4th 2009, and will continue until the position is filled.

Application should be submitted electronically to: GW Human Resources, Posting number: 0601476
