Position: Director of Development
Organization: Greater Boston Food Bank
Location: Massachusetts
Date posted: 10/29/2009

Hungry? Probably not. Or if you are, you have a good idea of where your next meal will come from. You have a lot of options.

Most of our clients can't take their next meal for granted. More than 83,000 people in eastern Massachusetts count on The Greater Boston Food Bank to acquire and move the food for their next meal out into their communities every week.

Ready to work for an organization that makes a tangible and visible difference in people's lives every day?

Accelerate your career by working with the largest hunger-relief organization in New England -- and one of the largest and most successful in the United States. You'll join a team of experienced and talented professionals committed to our principal mission -- to help end hunger in eastern Massachusetts.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Marketing and Development, you will organize and lead our fundraising work in annual giving, planned giving, and in-kind donations. In the spring we moved into our brand new building, offering an efficient, modern, and drastically increased capacity to acquire and distribute more food. Private support is the key to our continued growth and development.
Your efficient and effective operation will receive gifts from individuals and institutions through direct mail, special events, and personal solicitation. Under your leadership, systems for prospect management, gift administration, prospect research, and stewardship will be evaluated and strengthened, where needed. You will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects for annual giving that will provide generous support for The Food Bank. You will also work closely with the President and CEO and her Executive Team, members of the Board of Directors, and other volunteers. Finally, there will be an opportunity to participate significantly in our current capital campaign.

The best-qualified candidates will have 7 to 10 years or more of significant fundraising experience. A track record of individual prospect management and successful solicitation is a must, as is a demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and inspire a team of people who report to you. Prior experience running successful annual giving programs is a plus. You must be driven to succeed and be committed to the mission of The Greater Boston Food Bank. This may well be the opportunity you are seeking to effectively apply all of the skills and experience that you have developed toward a goal that is easy to understand and that will improve people's lives.

Get to know us by visiting our Web site at www.gbfb.org. Send us your resume and a letter that explains why The Greater Boston Food Bank would be a good fit for you, the real difference you have already made in the other places you have worked; and the contribution you think you can make if you come to work with us.
Please send your application to Human Resources, via email to hr@gbfb.org. or fax 617-427-0146.
Interviews for qualified candidates will be scheduled immediately.
