Position: Executive Director
Organization: Bring Me A Book
Location: California
Date posted: 10/29/2009

Bring Me A Book's (BMAB) mission is to provide easy access to the best children's books and inspire reading aloud to children by providing libraries and workshops to underserved communities. BMAB works to empower and help parents in their role as a first teacher and to promote family literacy by providing convenient and easy access to a library. BMAB serves over 450,000 children and parents at over 1,700 sites in California. Programs can also be found in China, India, Guatemala, Mexico, the Philippines, Kenya, and Malawi. BMAB's annual budget is approximately $2 million. To learn more about BMAB, please visit their website at www.bringmeabook.org.

The Executive Director provides overall leadership for the daily operations of BMAB. He/She oversees the development of the programs and resources and develops and implements fundraising strategies. BMAB's Board has a strong committee structure and the Executive Director must have a good working relationship with the Board, the founder, and each of its Committees. Leading candidates will possess collaborative leadership skills that demonstrate consensus-oriented management, effective decision-making, strategic vision, and practical implementation. The successful candidate will be an innovator, a creative problem solver and a visionary.

The Executive Director will be a charismatic and inspirational leader with a positive image and strong interpersonal and communication skills. He/She must be an energetic fundraiser and have the ability to elevate BMAB's profile in the community. The Executive Director should be diplomatic but a decisive, flexible, politically astute, culturally sensitive, and self-motivated leader. The successful candidate will have a commitment to and a passion for childhood literacy. Successful financial and people management experience is important. While the ideal candidate will likely have nonprofit leadership experience (executive or board), candidates with leadership experience in the for-profit sector are encouraged to apply.
