We are seeking candidates for the position of President, Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership in our Silver Spring MD office.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the DCGEP Board of Directors, the President will be charged with leading all aspects of this nonprofit organization including strategic direction, operational management including video production, developing new initiatives, fundraising, finance, risk management, human resources, and board management.

Responsibilities:
Leadership
1. Work with the Board to continue to develop the organization's vision and strategic direction
2. Act as the primary spokesperson for the organization and represent the organization at events and other activities to enhance the organization's public profile
3. Identify, assess and inform the Board of internal and external issues that affect the organization
Strategy and Development
1. Generate and build new initiatives and partnerships that provide revenue and support for the purpose of enhancing the mission and goals of DCGEP
2. Develop and sustain a diverse fundraising base - corporate, foundation and government
3. Build and maintain long-term relationships with key donors and partners
4. Direct development of grant proposals and other fundraising activities
5. Raise the visibility of the organization
Operational management
1. Provide overall direction and leadership to operations, including the Learning Center initiative currently active in 16 countries and growing; a major pan-African broadcast media coalition; and DCGEP's television programming
2. Manage an HQ staff of at least 13 plus at least 30 nationals working in their own countries implementing the Learning Center initiative
3. Oversee programming and content-related initiatives such as a feature film for African audiences about the science of HIV/AIDS
4. Responsible for meeting all fiscal and fiduciary standards and requirements consistent with managing a nonprofit organization
5. Direct the day-to-day operations of DCGEP
6. Annual budget in 2009 - $6 million

Requirements
* Bachelors Degree required; Advanced Degree preferred
* Minimum of 7 years of leadership and management in a non-profit sector organization in the field of international development. Experience in Africa preferred.
* Minimum of 7 years of demonstrated success in staff leadership, fundraising, partnership development and financial management.
* Experience with corporate social responsibility and demonstrated success in corporate donor management and international government relations.
* Familiarity with issues relating to education (in particular the use of technology and media for education in the developing world), teacher training, production and community development in under-resourced communities in the developing world
* Substantial, direct board development and governance experience
* Demonstrated success in project management, budgeting and human resource management.
* Ability to bring relevant international contacts and networks to the position; strong networking skills.
* An appreciation, understanding and intellectual curiosity for DCGEP's mission and the ability to communicate it effectively.
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
