United Nations Foundation (UNF)/Better World Fund (BWF)

Vacancy Announcement

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The UN Foundation was created in 1998 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner's historic $1 billion gift to support UN causes and activities. The UN Foundation is an advocate for the UN and a platform for connecting people, ideas, and capital to help the United Nations solve global problems including decreasing child mortality, improving disaster relief, protecting diverse cultures and environments, creating a clean energy future, empowering women and girls, and improving U.S.-UN relations. The UN Foundation is a public charity that engages in advocacy, grant making, and building partnerships.

The UN Foundation's Women and Population program works together with the UN and other partners to promote gender equality and empower women and girls, with particular focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights. Our three program priorities are:
·Increasing public and private investment in adolescent girls;
·Promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights, which includes driving resource flows, advocacy, and communications activities to elevate sexual and reproductive health and rights; and
·Partnering with key UN agencies (particularly UNFPA) to most strategically address women's empowerment and sexual and reproductive health and rights.

OVERVIEW

The UN Foundation is seeking a Campaign Director for a new and exciting campaign (the "Girl Campaign") that will have two primary goals: (1) to raise awareness of the need to better the lives of the more than 600 million adolescent girls living in the developing world, and (2) to raise funding for The Girl Fund, the UN Foundation's vehicle for donors to support the on-the-ground work of the United Nations related to adolescent girls and complementary NGO advocacy activities. The Girl Campaign will be multi-faceted; it will build a grassroots movement and interest in the potential of adolescent girls in the developing world and solutions for improving their lives among grassroots constituencies. The campaign will seek to raise $20 million over five years from a variety of partners and donors.

The Campaign Director will lead and manage the Girl Campaign to achieve its goals and objectives, specifically building a mass constituency engaged in the issue of elevating the rights and needs of adolescent girls living in the developing world and raising funds to re-shape their lives through The Girl Fund.
