Director of Donor Relations

Position Summary
The director leads, manages, and directs the Office of Donor Relations as it seeks to engage, acknowledge, and steward donors and potential donors. As the university prepares for the public launch of an ambitious comprehensive campaign, the director will play a central role in formulating and executing departmental policy and campaign strategy. The director reports to the vice president for university relations.

Essential Duties

o Oversee, manage, and execute the university's overall donor relations strategy.
o Manage, direct, and staff all development-related events including annual donor recognition events, prospect cultivation events, and stewardship events.
o Manage and coordinate the university's regional campaign program and other campaign-related initiatives including the kick-off and celebration events.
o Manage and direct a comprehensive acknowledgement process for gifts made to the university. Draft correspondence for the president, vice president for university relations, and other administrators.
o Work with major gift contact officers to design and implement cultivation and stewardship events for individual donors and prospective donors.
o Serve as central manager for information regarding endowment funds and donors. Manage and direct endowment reporting to appropriate donors of endowment gifts.
o Devise and track commemorative opportunities for new, renovated, and existing facilities. Manage all related donor recognition programs and initiatives.
o Assist as appropriate with the preparation of fundraising brochures, case statements, and other university relations promotional material.
o Manage and coordinate the preparation of significant portions of the President's Annual Report and the annual Endowment Report.

Position Requirements

o Bachelor's degree and significant experience in development or constituent relations, preferably at a small liberal arts institution.
o Track record of program management, development, and implementation.
o Significant experience working productively with alumni and parent volunteers.
o Ability to work and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a broad range of internal and external constituents including faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, and friends of the university.
o Ability to work independently, solve problems, handle confidential information, and navigate sensitive situations.
o Superior management and personnel skills.
o Highly developed computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as constituent relations software such as Sage Millennium.
o Willingness and ability to travel.
o Strong analytical skills.
o Excellent organizational and planning skills as well as superior attentiveness to detail.

Compensation

o Decisions about starting salaries will be based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.
o This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
o Generous benefits package includes medical insurance, dental insurance, education benefits, and non-contributory retirement plan.
