Job Description:

The Assistant Executive Director and Director of Regional Offices is responsible for the planning and operation of AJC's 26 regional offices with a staff of 90 and an $11 million budget, and for all regional fundraising campaigns, recruitment of local and national leaders, implementation of effective programs, and coordination of field and national relationships. The Assistant National Director is a member of AJC's Senior Management Team. The position reports to the Executive Director. This position is located in New York City, but candidates from other states will be considered.

The Director of Regional Offices will lead AJC in repositioning its historical regional presences. With an American Jewish populace that is increasingly dynamic and less centered in fixed locales, AJC needs to establish a strong presence throughout the country, including areas where it has no physical office. The successful candidate will have the vision to redefine the roles of regional offices and the drive and skill sets necessary to work in partnership with the lay and staff leaders to implement the vision.

Specific Responsibilities:

·Oversee all aspects of regional office operations to insure they are effectively fulfilling AJC's mission, promoting policies and programs, developing financial resources, and managing regional operations and budgets. Provide guidance to regional offices in decision-making regarding operations, leadership development, fundraising, and program development in conjunction with national senior management.

·Assume responsibility for development and fundraising in regional offices. Work closely with the Development and the Individual Giving departments, and with regional directors to develop and implement fundraising goals. Monitor campaigns and other development activities in the field.

·Recruit and hire regional directors, and oversee recruitment and employment of other professional staff in the field. Set program and institutional goals and supervise and evaluate performance of regional directors.

·Work with all divisions at the national office as member of the senior management team to develop programs to be delivered nationally that reflect issues and operations of both the national office and local regions.

·Work closely with lay leadership across the country and identify opportunities for leadership involvement at the national level.

·Initiate and oversee local strategic planning.

·Enhance communication between the national and regional offices, and among regional offices, their directors, and lay leaders.

·Represent regional interests and perspectives to national office leaders, and national interests and perspectives to regional offices.


Qualifications:


·At least ten years' related experience in complex organization and management, preferably of multiple offices.

·At least five years' experience in all aspects of the development and implementation of fundraising and development campaigns.

·Hands-on experience in designing and implementing substantive programs, preferably on issues of concern to AJC.

·Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build teamwork and motivate a wide variety of individuals and stakeholders are key requirements, as is a sense of urgency and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

·Strategic thinker.

·Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. As a public speaker, s/he must be viewed as a substantive representative of AJC and be comfortable speaking in large and small group settings, as well as in one-on-one discussions.

·Willingness to undertake extensive domestic travel.

·Must have commitment to, and passion for, AJC's mission, objectives, and issues.
