Online Systems Technical Manager

The National Brain Tumor Society is a progressive and thriving nationwide non-profit organization based in San Francisco, CA and Watertown, MA. NBTS is the preeminent nonprofit corporation investing in brain tumor research and providing support to those impacted by this illness. The Online Systems Technical Manager plays an integral role in development and maintenance of the National Brain Tumor Society's web presence and support of its online systems and initiatives. This position is based in Watertown and assists in the evaluation and implementation of web-based tools; the use, maintenance, and support of existing tools; and the technical implementation of custom web content. The Online Systems Technical Manager is a member of the Information Services department and reports to the Director of Information Services.

Responsibilities
·Assists in managing NBTS' website tools, including supporting the content management system (CMS), facilitating the addition of new custom functionalities, and training and supporting content contributors;
·Collaborates with various support vendors and provides general technical expertise related to systems and services under the purview of Information Services (CMS, CRM, Google Apps/Gmail, Convio fundraising/event management system, ThePort online community platform, etc.);
·Supports staff use of Web-based platforms;
·Works with the Database Manager to help support databases and related functionality;
·Writes custom web applications and/or works with external vendors to add dynamic and interactive functionalities to the website (web scripting and/or Flash development);
·Manages and continually improves the use of CSS on all NBTS-related websites;
·Works with the Communications team to address custom needs for the NBTS website and create templates for event websites based on graphical mock-ups;
·Works with the Online Initiatives Manager and other staff to assist in planning, development, testing, and maintenance of event websites;
·Applies knowledge of and best practices in programming techniques, web-based systems, and database interactivity;
·Works with the Online Initiatives Manager to ensure proper use of HTML in batch emails;
·Supports the technical aspects of our presence on social media networks and assists in integrating our social media presence with our traditional web content;
·Works with APIs from Convio, Google, etc. to create a seamless user experience;
·Edits videos and photos for posting online;
·Authors and/or maintains systems documentation according to policies and standards;
·Keeps abreast of developments in related technologies and assists with identifying, analyzing, and evaluating technological solutions;
·Ensures that training needs of supported staff in relevant systems are met

Requirements
·5+ years of professional experience, plus extensive experience as a user
·Strong project management capabilities as well as excellent organizational, communication, analytical skills
·Experience and proficiency with HTML, CSS, and a web-based scripting language for writing web applications (examples: PHP, ASP, Cold Fusion)
·Understanding and demonstrated ability to adapt to cross-platform, cross-browser compatibility issues
·Experience with JavaScript, DHTML, XML, Photoshop, and Illustrator preferred
·Understanding of database theory and experience writing SQL
·Professional web application development experience in building database-driven applications and websites
·Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.)
·Proficiency with MS Office (especially Excel)
·Meticulous attention to detail
·Ability to work comfortably with vendors and staff at all levels
·Ability to travel occasionally to west coast office, conferences, and trainings
·Ability to adapt and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
·Experience managing web content via a CMS preferred
·Flash experience preferred
·Experience with Convio (or similar system like Kintera) beneficial
·Experience with Salesforce.com and/or Raiser's Edge CRM beneficial
·B.S. required, prefer degree in Computer Science or MIS
