Position: Development Director
Organization: Shelter Network
Location: California
Date posted: 11/6/2009

Application deadline: 11/20/2009
Shelter Network, a highly respected and well-established Peninsula nonprofit serving the Peninsula's homeless population, is seeking an experienced Development Director to lead our fundraising and public relations efforts. Our $8.3 million annual operating budget is funded by a combination of federal, state, and local government grants, foundation grants, and private sector contributions from individual donors, businesses, and community groups. We completed two successful multi-million dollar capital campaigns, a development assessment last year, and most recently, a five year development plan. Our current development efforts are focused on increasing annual funding from private sector donors. Recently launched activities, still in the early stages, include a structured major donor program and a donor acquisition program.

Our Executive Director and Board of Directors are actively involved in fundraising. The Development Director will work with a strong team of 5 full-time staff members focused on grant writing, volunteer management, major gifts, and donor database management. Annual development activities include a Benefit Breakfast with 1200+ attendees, house parties and other smaller-scale special events, direct mail appeals, ongoing grant writing, and cultivation and solicitation of major individual and corporate donors. Outstanding opportunity for a seasoned development professional to help our successful and well-positioned organization maintain our strong existing funding base, and take the next step in growing our base of major donors and corporate supporters.

Qualifications: BA required. Minimum of five years of senior development experience. Annual fund and major gifts planning and implementation, grant writing and grants management, special events, and public relations experience required. Planned giving experience preferred. Excellent verbal and written communications skills essential. Proven ability to successfully cultivate and solicit donors and volunteers. Strong organizational, planning, and management skills necessary. Ability to meet multiple deadlines and balance multiple projects. Strong computer and new media skills needed. Raiser's Edge experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of Peninsula philanthropic community a plus.

Full-time exempt position at our administrative office in downtown Burlingame (easy commute from San Francisco or Palo Alto). $72-$99K + excellent benefits + great work environment.
