Chapin at a Glance, 2005-2006General InformationThe Chapin School, founded in 1901 by Maria Bowen Chapin, is an independent day school dedicated to the intellectual and personal growth of young women. Students engage in a rigorous liberal arts program that prepares them for further academic study and fosters curiosity, creativity, enthusiasm and integrity. Enrollment661 Special FacilitiesIn addition to 49 classrooms, the school building includes a two-story library with a multimedia room and a video editing room, 6 science laboratories, 4 art studios including a photography darkroom and a ceramics studio, 2 music studios, a black box theater, a dance studio, 2 computer laboratories, 4 gymnasiums and a greenhouse. Advanced Placement CoursesChapin offers 19 AP courses: English Language, English Literature, French Language, French Literature, Latin Literature, Latin: Vergil, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, European History, United States History, Art History, Studio Art, Calculus (level AB), Calculus (level BC), Computer Science, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics (B) College Placement64 percent of the Class of 2005 entered "most selective colleges." 32 percent entered "very selective colleges." 100 percent attend a four-year college. The Chapin CommunityMembers of the Chapin community come from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx and reflect the racial, religious, cultural and economic diversity of New York City.
