Celebrating 45 years, the New Canaan Nature Center is an environmental education center and sanctuary dedicated to helping people of all ages better understand, appreciate and care for the world of nature. The New Canaan Nature Center is located on a 40-acre site which features unusual habitat diversity, including wet and dry meadows, two ponds, wet and dry woodlands, an orchard and a cattail marsh. Two miles of hiking trails criss cross the site, including a 350 foot marsh boardwalk, and an observation tower overlooks the cattail marsh. The property has both developed and undeveloped areas, and offers a variety of horticultural experiences by way of an herb garden, a wildflower garden, a perennial garden and a naturalists garden. The new Visitors Center, which opened fall of 1999 houses registration, the Nature Gift Shop, Discovery Center exhibits and a large multi-purpose room for conferences, art shows and events. Other facilities include a 4,000 square foot working Greenhouse, and Education Building, Education Annex, Animal Care and Housing, an outdoor Aviary, an Apple Cider House and a working Maple Sugar Shed. The New Canaan Nature Center is an unparalleled source for horticulture and natural science education. Return to Philanthropy Careers. |
