Executive Compensation: Is the Recession Affecting Nonprofit Salaries?

Some top executives in the nonprofit world have taken pay cuts to help improve their organizations bottom lines during these tough economic times. Yet at other organizations, compensation is rising quickly.

Ken Berger is executive director of Charity Navigator, a watchdog group in Mahwah, N.J. Previously, he served as chief operating officer of Jawonio, a charity in New City, N.Y., that provides services to people with disabilities.

David Samuels is a partner at Duval & Stachenfeld LLP, a law firm in New York. Mr. Samuels has extensive experience representing public charities and private foundations, including social service agencies, grant-making foundations, mental health organizations, and educational and religious institutions.
