Frequently asked questions

1 What exactly is a site license?

A Chronicle of Philanthropy site license enables all the staff members of an entire organization to gain complete access to all of The Chronicle's Web site. Content normally restricted to subscribers becomes available to everyone.

2 How is access to your Web site controlled? Will all our staff members need a user name and password?

No. Access is controlled by your organization's IP (Internet Protocol) number(s). Once these numbers have been entered into The Chronicle's authentication database, your authorized users are recognized when trying to read premium Chronicle content online. Rather than asking for a user name or password, our system will recognize your IP number and allow immediate and complete access to the requested news article.

3 Will I be able to gain access to The Chronicle's Web site from home, or while away from the office?

Yes, but only if your organization uses a proxy server so that authorized users (i.e., staff members and students) can enjoy remote access to the online products your organization has purchased.

4 What exactly do I get with my purchase of a Chronicle site license?

All the text from the current issue, which prints and mails every other Thurdsay, is posted the following Monday morning; a searchable archive of back issues going back to October 1997; all the data from our annual surveys on giving and executive salaries plus our ranking of charities in our Philanthropy 400 report are in an easy-to-search databases.

Visit our site map for a summary of all the information and data published online by The Chronicle that you organization will have access to.
