Suggestions for the Next President

What should the next U.S. president do on his first day in office? Make a pledge to eradicate nuclear weapons? Build more bike lanes? Create a national sales tax and eliminate all other federal taxes?

A Web site, On Day One, is asking Americans to make their suggestions for what the next resident of the White House should commit to. The Internet project is run by the Better World Fund, an advocacy group in Washington that seeks to improve U.S. relations with the United Nations.

Aside from ideas from everyday people, the Web site includes video interviews with politicians and other well-known figures. Walter Mondale, the Democratic presidential nominee in 1984, says that the next president on his first day should promise to build better relations with other nations, while Gov. Christine Gregoire, a Democrat from Washington, wants the new commander-in-chief to pull troops out of Iraq.

What do you think the next president should do on his first day?

  4. I would like to suggest that the next President change the retirement age to 60 for female and 65 for male. With this enforcement young people will have more job opportunity and would encouraged to get their education. With a plan like this the Government also need to make the minium pension a substantial amount so that people who did not make enough will still get enough to support them. This amount should be based on the economy and increased yearly to balance the cost of living. Pension should not be based on social security contribution but rather the government should still collect social security from all working class. This system will provide money for all retiree and they will not need to continue working. For those who wish to work should only be allowed 14 hours per week, except for the self employed. At the moment social security amount is too small and the cost of living too high so please do something so that our economy continue to roll with a continueous flow of revinue.Medicare need to charge their policy and cover every one at 100% for in-patient or out patient, major medical and prescription. People should not have to buy secondary because Medicare only covers 80 % for hospitalization. Not everone need to be hospitalize people need to stay healthy to prevent disease but with the present system they can’t and by the time they get to their doctor it to late. Everyone should have healthcare regardless of their status. All visitors entering the United State must pay an airport tax this funds should be used for providing healthcare to people who get sick while visiting for the duration of their stay in the US and is renewalable at an additional charge for added 30-90 days. This insurance should also have a $25. copayment per visit to all providers. All healthcare providers have to accept this type of insurance without requesting referrals. For Citizen or resident who are not qualify for medicare must also get a low cost insurance at a flat fee with a renewal clause of 12 months and the same copayment and no-referral requirement. This Type of insurance should be on an individual basis.
In this economic crisis I suggest that companies increased employees salary to the amount needed for the cost of living increased. Everything increased except people salary. People can only spend if they have the funds.
