Bill Gates in the Obama Administration?

Bill Gates said last week that, if asked, he would consider a position with the incoming Obama administration, according to The Washington Post.

He said his work as chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a full-time job, but “if there was some committee or pretty focused task where I could contribute, I’d be glad to consider that.”

What position would you nominate Mr. Gates for? Education secretary? United Nations ambassador? Philanthropist and chief — or is that Bill Clinton’s unofficial title?

  1. What really is his criteria for a job? That it be pretty or focused? What does his participation in Obama’s administration say about the administration itself? And why should we focus on integrating one of the richest people in America into it? Shouldn’t the question be how is Obama communicating what the PEOPLE need? Appoint a single mother who has beaten the odds to be successful. Appoint a homeless man turned millionaire like Chris Gardner. Then let’s talk about true change in the white house.

  3. I think he would make an excellent Secretary of Education based on all that his foundation is doing in that regard. The education system is broken and needs an innovative leader to completely overhaul it.

  4. Not sure if Gates is the right candidate, but I would love to see a Cabinet-level position dedicated to the Nonprofit Community. We now represent 10% of the GDP and have an incredible impact on the economy and country; we need someone on the Cabinet to represent our interests while also providing a better opportunity for us to get engaged in the work of the government as a partner.
