Philanthropic Networking Site Finds Generational Niche

The growth and popularity of Changents, a philanthropic networking site for people in their 20s and 30s, is highlighting the new innovative ways that Generation X and Y are working to promote social change, reports The Washington Post.

Deron Triff and Alex Hofmann, co-founders of the site, say that Changents, based in Alexandria, Va., and Boston, offers a place where innovators can post stories and videos to generate buzz about their projects, pick up new ideas, or even find potential donors. Readers can comment on the stories, contact the innovators, or send copies of the stories to friends or peers.

Mr. Hoffman said that he and Mr. Triff created Changents in response to the growing desire of young people to take an active role in philanthropy.

He said, “These age groups feel like they are A) aware and B) that these things do affect their lives.” He added, “Sending 10 bucks to the United Way at the end of the year” is good, but people may “not be sure where it goes. . . . They want to see and understand [the impact of] their actions.”

  1. This should also be the case here in Europe.
