Your comments about these new foundations leaders coming from the corporate sector is certainly accurate, but I think it misses the obvious. All of these individuals have had long-standing interests and relatinships with nonprofits active in the same fields of interest as the foundations that they have been called to lead. The take-away for me is that their values and interests likely began at a very young age. They either were fortunate to have parents who nurtured their interests and values and/or perhaps they grew up in challenging circumstances that they were able to overcome through the commitment of those who mentored them. They now want to give back to society in more intential ways. So, it’s never too early to start cultivating the next generation of independent sector leaders!

Congratulations to the new CEO. I just hope it means that the Foundation will look at others for their benevolence, those of us who do good work, who help people every day—who need a little help to continue helping others.
