EBay Starts Socially Responsible Retail Site

EBay, the online auction company, has started a Web site to sell goods produced with social and environmental goals in mind, reports the Associated Press.

WorldofGood.com will sell fixed-price products that have a positive effect on suppliers and the planet, such as fair-trade jewelry and housewares made from renewable sources like bamboo. The nonprofit groups Rainforest Alliance and Co-op America will screen sellers and verify items listed on the site, reports the news service.

  1. What a great idea!

  2. Today is the first day of rational trading in retail in a long time – stocks that perform are up, and the junk people have been flying into on the “gasoline down 50 cents will drive people into the malls en masse” are being punished. I can enjoy this one day of rationality. That seems to happen whenever facts like this morning’s same store sales figures across the sector are announced.

  3. I would hope that EBays site might consider an EBay grant for ads such as Google Grants offer non-profits an affordable way to get their name and information out to the public. Keep up the Good Work, EBay.
