Conference Notebook: IRS Vows to Be Vigilant in Cracking Down on Charities

Two top Internal Revenue Service leaders told the annual meeting of Independent Sector on Tuesday that the agency will continue efforts to ensure that tax-exempt groups are following federal laws, The Chronicle of Philanthropy reports.

Plus, see other articles from the meeting, including:

  • Diana Aviv, president of Independent Sector, said the economy and the election of a new president challenge nonprofit groups to serve as advocates, not just as stewards of donations.
  • Fund raisers need to avoid complaining about the economy and instead focus on creative ways to bring more money into their organizations.

  1. Regarding the article pertaining to the IRS cracking down on charities…they better take a real hard look at The Salvation Army…this “non profit” organization is perhaps the most corrupt charity in the US. No one is challenging this organization…why? I have been told they are cult like but more importantly this organization enjoys the fear they use on others who have challenged the organization as a 501c3.
They are ruthless bastards and someone needs to take a stand and look into all those hidden books…why do they not share any information…how can they get away with this?
