November 25, 2008 America Should Do More for World's Poor, Says Charity CoalitionThe United States needs to overhaul its system of delivering aid to people in poor countries, says a coalition of U.S. Christian aid groups, reports Reuters. David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World, says the economic crisis is driving more people into poverty: As food prices have risen worldwide, the number of people who aren’t getting enough to eat has risen by 44 million, according to the World Bank. Officials there say they are worried that corporations that are currently supporting development will pull back in their assistance, reports the news service. ![]() CommentsCommenting is closed for this article.

In addition to suggestions in the above article, I would also suggest that aid to individuals in particular needs should be reconsidered. For example, in my case I was admitted for an MBA course to a particular University (London School of Business and Finance – LSBF) in October 08. The total tuition is £4,500 for a 12 month MBA. I have up to December 31 08 to clear. I have been soliciting for sponsors but the responses so far are negative. There is a general indication from responses that aid to individuals is almost inaccessible. In my solicitations I clearly indicate that the funds should be transferred directly to the University, not to me. Can any one come to my rescue?
