Prospecting: Year-Round Giving

Many people do all their giving in a few frenzied days toward the end of December, but what steps can charities take to encourage donors to think about giving all year round? That is a topic discussed in a recent post on Prospecting, The Chronicle’s online fund-raising column.

Plus: According to a new survey, fund raisers say they are somewhat confident about meeting year-end fund-contribution goals.

Comments

  1. Our gift card service is geared directly to this goal: to offer constant awareness of and opportunities for charitable giving every day, building “everyday philanthropists” via one gift-card at a time. www.HeartCard.com — We work in partnership with charities to create strategies for greater community awareness and involvement

  2. What about allowing people to give all the way into April – just as they are able to make contributions to fund an IRA? That way, people would know what their calendar year-end income and tax situation was and they could make an informed and educated decision to give. It probably wouldn’t shift all giving to the spring, but spread it more over that six month period than at present. And encourage more thoughtful and strategic philanthropy.
