From The Chronicle: Interest in Anonymous Giving Grows

At a time when many charities are desperately looking for new donors, an increasing number of philanthropists seem to be trying just as hard not to be found, The Chronicle of Philanthropy reports. The number of anonymous gifts is on the rise, based on analysis of the Chronicle’s database of major gifts and on anecdotal reports from fund raisers and advisers to donors.

Comments

  1. I suspect many of us were taught that the highest form of charity was to give generously and quietly — without receiving recognition for our contributions. I’m afraid we’ve all strayed from that ideal by offering to name almost everything (and anything) for a donor who provides a large enough gift.

Maybe we were wrong and perhaps there are more donors than we thought who want to do the right thing right and don’t really want a plaque, bust or their name emblazoned on some item, thing or buidling?

  2. I think anonymous giving is silly. If you want to make wise giving choices, you need to talk to people, learn from people, bounce ideas off people. Has nothing to do with plaques.

  3. As the executive director of a non profit, I will take $$$ anyway. I do beleive in telling others about a good cause and supporting it. WWW.leavingthecocoon.net
