Relief Fund Raising Surpasses $840-Million

In the three weeks since the terrorist attacks in New York City and
Washington, more than $840-million has been raised by charitable
organizations working on relief efforts, according to the latest
Chronicle of Philanthropy estimate.
Among the fund-raising highlights:
- The American Red Cross has raised $258-million.
- The September 11th Fund, created by the New York Community Trust and
the United Way of New York City, has brought in $142-million.
- The Salvation Army has collected $32-million.
