Companies have given or pledged more than $42-million to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region and in Florida. Among the contributions to date:
AT&T Foundation (Bedminster, N.J.) has pledged $500,000 to the American Red Cross, in Washington.
Anheuser-Busch Foundation (St. Louis) has pledged $250,000 to the American Red Cross. Anheuser-Busch has also donated 825,000 cans of drinking water.
Amerada Hess Corporation (New York) has donated $1-million to the American Red Cross.
Bank of America (Charlotte, N.C.) has announced a $1-million donation, with $500,000 going to the American Red Cross, $100,000 to the Houston Food Bank through the Gulf Coast United Way Katrina Relief Fund, and the remaining $400,000 to be given to organizations according to the greatest need.
Bayer (Leverkusen, Germany) has pledged $2-million to the American Red Cross.
Boston Scientific Corporation (Natick, Mass.) has donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross.
BP Foundation (Houston) has donated $1-million to the American Red Cross, with $500,000 earmarked for Louisiana, $250,000 for Mississippi, $100,000 for Alabama, and $150,000 for unrestricted use.
Calibre (Alexandria, Va.) has donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross.
Capital One Financial Corporation (McLean, Va.) has donated $1-million to the American Red Cross.
Chevron Corporation (San Ramon, Calif.) has pledged $5-million for the hurricane-relief efforts: $3-million to the American Red Cross, and $2-million to local charities to be determined by the company.
CVS/Pharmacy Charitable Trust (Woonsocket, R.I.) has pledged $250,000 to the American Red Cross, and donated food, water, and personal-care items valued at $254,000.
Deluxe Corporation Foundation (St. Paul) has donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross.
Dow Chemical Company (Midland, Mich.) has pledged $1-million in cash for immediate relief efforts to the American Red Cross and $1-million in products and technology for longer-term reconstruction work. The company has also announced it will match up to $1-million in employee and retiree donations to the American Red Cross.
DuPont (Wilmington, Del.) has pledged $1-million, with a focus on disaster relief in DeLisle and Pascagoula, Miss.
ExxonMobil (Irving, Tex.) has donated $2-million to the American Red Cross.
Freddie Mac (McLean, Va.) has pledged $50,000 to the American Red Cross.
General Motors and the GM Foundation (Detroit) has donated $400,000 to the American Red Cross and pledged up to $250,000 in additional support.
Lowe's Companies (Mooresville, N.C.) plans to donate up to $1-million to the American Red Cross.
McCormick Tribune Foundation (Chicago) expects to donate up to $1-million to support local aid organizations in New Orleans.
Monsanto Company (St. Louis) has pledged $1-million, $750,000 of which will go the American Red Cross and $250,000 of which will go to three different United Way chapters in Louisiana.
Nike (Beaverton, Ore.) has donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross.
Northrop Grumman Corporation (Los Angeles) will contribute $2-million to the American Red Cross.
Office Depot (Delray Beach, Fla.) has pledged $1-million to the American Red Cross.
Pfizer (New York) has pledged $2-million, half of which will be divided among the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the United Way of America, and half of which will support the rebuilding of hospitals and health-care facilities. The company will also make in-kind donations and offer its services and employees's assistance in relief efforts.
Target (Minneapolis) has donated $1.5-million to the American Red Cross, $500,000 of which has been earmarked for immediate relief efforts.
Wal-Mart (Bentonville, Ark.) has donated $1-million to the Salvation Army, in Alexandria, Va. and $15-million in cash and products to other relief efforts.
Walt Disney Company (Burbank, Calif.) has donated $2.5-million, of which $1-million will support the American Red Cross's immediate relief efforts, $1-million will go to children's charities engaged in rebuilding efforts, and $500,000 will support volunteer centers.
Weather Channel Companies (Atlanta, Ga.) has donated $1-million to the American Red Cross.
