Smart Social Media Strategies
for Nonprofit Groups

Thursday, November 5
2:00 - 3:00 p.m., Eastern time

Social networking Web sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube offer nonprofit groups an unprecedented opportunity to reach potential supporters without the cost of more traditional forms of communication. If used properly, nonprofit groups can use these networks to turn simple, short messages into viral campaigns that spread quickly among those who have a passion for your cause.

But, for many charities, it’s difficult to take advantage of online networks, especially at small organizations where executives and employees already play multiple roles.

How can your group overcome these obstacles and develop an effective presence in these social networks?

Based on extensive Chronicle research and with examples of success from charities large and small, you will learn how to:

  • Build an effective presence on Twitter and Facebook in 15 minutes per day.
  • Take simple steps to get your entire organization to use social networks — and adjust to a new, more interactive way of thinking.
  • Raise money using online social networks.

Learn from these social-media experts on how they have quickly built huge followings online — and how they have leveraged these followings to advance their mission and raise money.

Moderator: Peter Panepento, the Web editor at The Chronicle of Philanthropy.

Danielle Brigida, social media outreach coordinator at the National Wildlife Federation in Washington

Joan Schramm, publicity coordinator for the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League in Annapolis, Md.
