The billionaire owners of the Hobby Lobby retail chain have donated the campus of a prep school in Massachusetts to a national Christian group, ending their own effort to find an evangelical operator for the property, says the Associated Press.
The Green family of Oklahoma, reckoned the country's biggest donors to faith causes, purchased the 217-acre site in 2009 and sought to give it away to an owner who would commit to honoring the legacy of 19th-century evangelist D.L. Moody, founder of the Northfield Mount Hermon school.
A potential recipient backed out two months ago, leading the Greens to hand over the campus to the Georgia-based National Christian Foundation, which will take up the search for a new owner. The foundation might sell rather than donate the property and has not set explicit criteria for finding an owner, according to the AP.
