Two faith-affiliated crisis-pregnancy centers in California have filed a court challenge against a new state law mandating that such facilities inform patients about abortion and contraceptive services available from other providers, The Sacramento Bee and the Los Angeles Times report.
The suit, filed Saturday by conservative legal nonprofit the Pacific Justice Institute on behalf of clinics in Marysville and Redding, seeks an injunction to block enforcement of the measure. The law, signed Friday by Gov. Jerry Brown and set to take effect Jan. 1, requires licensed reproductive-health clinics to notify patients of programs to help them access affordable family planning, abortion services, and prenatal care.
