The Walton Family Foundation has pledged $50-million to Teach for America to nearly double the program’s corps of recent college graduates leading classes in low-income schools, Bloomberg reports.
The three-year gift will boost the number of Teach for America instructors from about 8,200 in the 2010-11 school year to 15,000 by 2015, according to the foundation led by the family behind retail giant Wal-Mart.
The foundation, one of the country’s most active donors to education causes, has given Teach for America $22-million since 1993, including $16.7-million last year.
